Leigh A. Skvarla, PhD, NCC

Dr. Skvarla enjoys helping athletes and performers gain self-insight and build mental skills. She earned her doctorate in Sport & Exercise Psychology from West Virginia University while consulting with university and community-based athletes and performers. Dr. Skvarla provided performance consulting, personal counseling, and academic mentoring services at Waynesburg University as she earned her Master’s degree in Counseling from West Virginia University. A former dancer, gymnast, and soccer player, Dr. Skvarla also holds a Bachelor ’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Dance from Bucknell University.

Leigh is certified by the National Board for Certified Counselors, and is a member of the American Psychological Association, the International Association for Dance Medicine & Science, and the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP). In 2013-14, she served on AASP’s Executive Board, overseeing 20+ student delegates and helping the organization prepare for its next Strategic Plan. She has presented peer-reviewed research and collaborative workshops at national and international conferences, most often focusing on leadership, stress management, and/or applied ethics.

Leigh also serves as an adjunct faculty member at Chatham University and is working towards licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Pennsylvania. She enjoys exercising, reading, and spending time with friends and family. She and her husband live in the North Hills.
